Rods

Featured Replies

I'm sitting here watching the national championship game waiting for Oregon to come back so I'm looking at rods and which one does everyone believe is a better rod the *** *** black or the fenwick HMX?

I have a Fenwick med-light spinning rod for walleye fishing. I like it but it is rather tip-heavy. I don't think I would like a casting version.

I have ne experience with any *** rods mainly because they look ugly to my eyes.

I have the Fenwick ET Smallmouth and Fenwick Aetos.  Simply, they kick ass.  I have the following:

6'9" M/XF Spinning Smallmouth

6'10" M/F Casting Smallmouth

7' M/F Spinning Aetos

7'6" H/XF Casting Aetos

They perform just as well or better than some 200 dollar rods.  I don't own any HMXs though.  I can regularly find the ET series for around 100 bucks and the Aetos for 130. I always have the two spinning rods with me and the 6'10" I have about half the time out with me.  The Aetos beef stick I use for Carolina Rigging or flipping/pitching rod.

The HMG's are much nicer than the HMX. I don't know how they're only $10 different.

Not sure what size fenwick your thinking about. Ffo has the hmg for $70 and aetos for $105. Also has Hmx for real cheap. Just a few models each though. There's a coupon code valid til the 20th. Additional $15 off of orders less than 100, $25 off 100-150 dollar orders, $35, $45 etc. Worth checking out.

Those HMG and HMX rods are last years models, not the newer ones. Don't know if that matters, but the newer ones feel a lot better.

Aetos are current though.

The *** is better and I really like the new Fenwick rods. I like the new HMG but the *** is lighter than those so that is where I'd go but the new HMG 7'2" M-MF is an awesome square bill/lipless crank rod, plenty of power and just the right amount of flex!!
