I'm looking for experienced recommendations for decent dry bag for phone, wallet, etc. 

 

In a boat, I was content with pockets and ziploc baggie, if raining.   But now that I've gotten my first kayak, I think it prudent to invest in a decent dry-bag -- probably one that will float.  If you use one for your phone, does your phone work inside the bag? 

 

For pics, checking time, text, etc....I realize you probably aren't going to make a call with it in a bag or box.

I have a friend who uses a waterproof plastic box thing. I don't know much about it. It does not float, and you would have to take your phone out of the box.... The reason I want one it is it has a clip that hangs onto your bag. I'll ask him more about it and let you know...

Seal-Line has a good line of waterproof bags. Lot of different sizes. If the weather is cool, keeping extra dry clothes is a good idea just in case you take an unexpected dunking. For small items like phones or cameras, try and find Aquapac cases. for hard cases and boxes, OtterBox makes some real good cases. Sometimes, the biggest problem is finding retailers who carry what you are looking for. Kayak shops usually carry a selection.

I'd probably be the cheap guy that would take a piece of flat styrofoam and cut it out to fit in the ziplock bag in order to make sure my phone and wallet floated or something similar.  Can't justify $100 on a cell phone life jacket when I can get myself one for $30.  It just doesn't add up.

I use the Seal Line 10 liter Storm Sack.  Wallets, keys, and cell phones get tossed into it while boating.  No issues with it so far.  Bright orange color makes it easy to spot.  I haven't dumped it overboard to test it, but everything stayed dry during a few rainy downpours.  I think I paid $20 for it at LLBean.

DO NOT TRUST ziplock bags to protect your cell phone or camera in the event of a dunking. Too many of my friends who do a lot of wading have lost phones that got soaked while being "protected" by a baggie.

An Aquapac for your phone is $30

 

I vacuum seal my iPhone when I go out on my kayak, lol. Yes, the phone works (touch screen and all) while vacuum sealed.

I would look at getting a bluetooth earpiece if you want to be able to use your phone without taking it out of your drybag. and as for a dry bag I cant help you with that.

 

 

Also you could get a samsung or apple watch if you really wanted to
