worm fishing

Featured Replies

What are some of y'all's favorite worm rigs and how do you fish them(retrieve speed, hopping it along the bottom, twitching it like a jerkbait, etc.)?

I'm kinda new to worm fishing but am looking for new ideas.so far I mostly t-rig with various bullet weights pegged to the worm.It seems to come thru the cover on these florida lakes pretty good.Just asking for everybody's .02.Thanks.

gjw77,

Try a 7 1/2" Culprit worm (Black Shad is my favorite color) with a 1/8 oz bullet weight. Don't peg the weight. Cast it into fishy cover and let it sink to the bottom and sit still for 30 seconds (count one mississippi two mississippi etc.). Drag it along the bottom with the rod tip a foot or so at a time and let it sit for 15 seconds. Do this all the way back to the boat or bank. Watch your line feel for the most subtle bite then set the hook quick and hard. Fishing this slowly is nerve racking but very effective. I hope you catch a monster.

Ronnie,

That's some great advice and applies to most soft plastic presentations.

If you think you are fishing slow, slow down!

Not that I'm an expert by any means...due to back surgery I mainly fish plastics.  My son calls it sissy fishing but hey, I'm fishing!  and catching.  I mostly carolina rig, just starting T.rig.  I use alot of 6in lizards,  Ky lake bass seem to like them.  SLOW is the key.  when you think you're fishing slow, slow down more.  It works fishig the banks and drops as well.  Good Luck, catch a bunch.  Remember.....S...L...O...W.............  Oh yeah, I also keep the line between my fingers to feel everything.

Berkley Power worms, both 7" and 10", and GYCB Cuttail worms are my favorites. Weights from 1/8oz up to 3/8oz depending on depth and wind. Mostly unpegged, but I'll "peg" the weight with a bobber stopper If I'm tossing the worm into wood. it wil hang up less that way.

Same retrieve as Alpster most of the time, except I'm bringing the worm up off the bottom a bit, instead of dragging it. Add a few short, hard twitches to the mix. Also, add a big hop at least once during the retrieve. Pop it up off the bottom 3 or 4 feet, and watch your line as it falls. Sometimes the drop is the trigger.

Cheers,

GK
