NEED HELP ABOUT POURING PLASTICS!

Featured Replies

I love fishing so I decided why not make my own tails and jig heads. I tried making some of my own moldswith the instructions from the website which apeared to work fine but when I go to pour them it doesnt form the tail. Therefore I'm left with half a grub. I just tried melting down some old grubs for this until my shippment from Lurecraft and Jann's Netcraft come in.

Anyone have any tips?

Sounds like a two part mold, you more than likely have one of two problems.

The first - is it vented well? The steam will need somewhere to go.

The second - how thin/thick is the tail? If it's too thin, it will need to be injected to fill, as gravity alone will not pull the plastic down before it cools.

I Think its vented well enough but the tails are pretty thin. I ordered a few molds with injectors from jann's netcraft so hopefully that solves the problem. I'm just eager to start and I dont want to wait for them to come in ;).

I've heard horror stories about those injectors.

Some of the thin tail molds you will need to pour the tail then close the mold.
