Outside Of The Box Dropshot.

So typically a drop shot is fished with a soft plastic nosed hooked or tex hooked with a weight at the bottom. A few years back I got into fly tying art (Hate fly fishing, but really enjoy making realistic flies.) I was making a few  EP Fiber Minnows for a buddy of mine and BAM it hit me... why not reverse the hook so its facing up and tie it onto my drop shot rod. This rig works really good for lethargic bass and can save you money.

try an unweighted bunny strip sometime. The fish don't have to be lethargic. It works any time.

I have never fish a drop shot rig with a fly for bass, but I have for other species. A buddy of mine and myself will do a back-country hike a couple times a year and fish the natural flowing creeks for sunfish and rock bass. We have found drop shotting a fly on an ultra light setup to be deadly for this.

Have a bunch of bigger flies I bought at LL Bean solely for this purpose. Never had luck on them.

I do some tying and have thought that a Woolly Bugger type fly or Zonker (bunny) strip would work  on a 4X  long hook but haven't tried it yet.
