In Need Of Jig Rod

Featured Replies

would a 7ft heavy xtra fast carbonlite make a good jig rod? just starting to get into jig fishing and in need of a good rod.

Depends on how heavy of a jig you are using and the type of cover you are throwing into.

Then I would go with a MH/F or MH/XF, but the H/XF would be ok if that is all they have, but I am not sure how it would handle 1/4oz jigs.

Id go with the heavy. Especially around cover.

I'd go with what he said.  MH/F is what I would be using on the weights you listed and it should handle moderate cover just fine.

what about the rod? i only mentioned the carbonlite cuz it can b had at a heck of a deal right now. no idea the sensitivity. i know the basspro mh/f rods are pretty stout so i should be good with a 7' mh

It would probably be ok for the higher weight range you listed, but 1/4 oz I think would be too light to load the road.  The Carbonlite MH/F is rated 3/8 to 1 oz.  This rod might be able to handle with a trailer, but even then it would be a challenge to cast.

I would use that rod as a Carolina, pitching stick or possibly swimbait.
