Anyone have any tips for fishing here? Will be down in Florida March 16th- 26th. Will be fishing from shore looking to get on some hogs. Any shore spots or as what to throw at this time down there would be greatly appreciated.

I never had any luck from shore at the main lake, you really need a boat. But in the canals that are connected to the lake I have had some success along with some peacock bass too.

I agree with Weld.  I live just a few minutes from Lake Ida, fished it a number of times over the years, it isn't my favorite place.  There looks like there is a lot of shore access. but that's deceiving.  Water can be low around shorelines and it's weedy, if you are going to fish bass go weedless.  There are lots of peacocks there but very hard to catch them from shore with artificial, live shiners rule.   As far as Lake Ida itself 2 of the better spots are close to the bridge at the Lake Ida rd entrance and all the way back as far as you can drive, a small cement fishing platform with a railing.  I've caught countless numbers of them in the surrounding canals, in the middle of March the bite should be picking up for them.

Blind casting with lures does not work near as well as it does further south, sight casting is the best way to do it. Peacocks like to hung the shore around here, walking the bank IMO is advantage, you can see them easier than you could from a boat and fish shallower.  Believe it or not the 2 very best lures to use in that shallower water for them are crappie jigs and inline spinners.

As aggressive as they can be, they can be even more tempermental, not always an easy catch.

Thank you for the tip. Are there any other lakes fish able from shore around or not to far from lake Ida?

Security is really tight. I might be able to get you in one or another with me if you want, if you call me when you are in the area. I often bank fish after work in the evening for an hour and a half, or for a couple of hours in the evening on the weekends if my wife loosens the leash. I have some good spots. If you're interested, message me when you are in FL, or soon before, and I'll give you my contact info. I like your persistence. You are really determined to catch bass on your vacation, as opposed to pursuing chicks on the beach.  Apparently you are as crazed about bass as the rest of us.

Lake Osbourne from the bank is a lot better access then Ida from the bank. Prince Park and Lake Osbourne is a lot closer to Boca, then Lake Ida.

We also considered renting a boat to fish Okeechobee as a possible route. Anyone know of any places that rent boats around that area?

There is more bank access at Osbourne but it's further from Boca than Lake Ida.  lake Ida rd to lake Worth rd is nearly 10 miles.
