Culling System

Featured Replies

So I want to make a culling system like this one...

I just prefer this type of culling system to the ones with the metal clips (that pierce the fish's mouth). It's not that I think that the tiny hole in their mouth harms them drastically, I just think this style of culling is easier. But I need a new set (I lost my old one), and on this snowy day in the northeast, I figured I'd try my hand at making some. I was thinking a bobber to a steel leader to some sort of clip, but that's where I need help.

Any suggestions on what sort of clip I should use? Obviously it has to open wide enough to get around a bass' bottom lip, and strong enough to stay on all day. None of the clips I found in my house seem like they will meet those criteria. Or has anybody made a culling system like this before? I have seen plenty with the metal stringer clip at the bottom, but none with the pinch on clip like the one in the picture.

those clips are for like badges or lanyards.  we buy them in big bags of like 500 at my workplace, i think they come from staples....  should be able to pick some up at any office supplies store.

I just bought one of these and replaced the clips with those from a metal stringer. One thing I learned is to sharped the tip of the clips so they are easier to punch through the fishes mouth.

The one I have has plastic clips with different colored tubing.  Nothing to get tangled up with.  Just make sure you're clips are Stainless Steel otherwise you are going to have rusting issues.
