My first post so hello to all. I purchased a Revo SX 6.4:1 recently from bass pro for $159 and will be getting a $20 rebate in the mail in the next few weeks. I was going to buy a reel for sure so it didn't take much convincing but the salesman talked highly and claimed they sell more of these at that price point than any other reel. I have had a great experience with the Curado in the past though. I have been unable to fish the Revo yet so I cant comment on performance. Do any of y'all recommend the Revo SX??

Don't know about the SX models.  I have read plenty of posts on the Gen 2 SX.  Exceptional casting distance when set up properly, but a lot of people couldn't seem to get them set right.  Quite a few backlashes.  The Gen 1 SX was highly thought of by many.  Gen 3 I haven't read much about.

would ask first what application you intend on using said reel for?

then would say i never pay MSRP for anything so a $200 reel is more like a $225 or $250 MSRP for me and then find a deal bringing it down to $200......  so take that into account and maybe broaden your search.

as far as a suggested reel, i got a lew's tournament pro on the auction site new for $145 and feel like for that price it's as good as you can get.  if you're willing to look at used reels, you can get all sorts of steals on reels for $200 or less.  i recently snagged a chronarch ci4+ for $150 shipped and i really couldn't tell if it had ever been used before....

New:

The Cuardo I is really nice.  The Tatula is nice but it may feel big in your hands dude, they do mine.

 

Used:

There are a ton of TD Zillions out there for $100-$150, add the price of a cleaning and Smooth Drag upgrade and I'd take one of these.

 

The Citica E used is $50-$75.  Add a bearing under the drive shaft ($3) and a Smooth Drag ($8).  Once this is done this reel is 98% of the performance of a Curado/Chronarch E.  And for the investment you could upgrade a few of your combos from those Silver Max's...

I think at that price point they are all nice. I don't think you can go wrong with lews, shimano, diawa, abu etc. It depends on what you prefer and how you plan I using it.

It is all going to come down to your preference...

 

I really like the Daiwa Tatula and the Tatula Type-R reels...but that is what I prefer

 

Get your hands on as many as you can to see how they feel to you.  This price range is highly competitive and definitely don't over look Pinnacle reels...

Curado 200E's are within budget. Even cheaper ones are Daiwa Advantage series of reels. But as a previous post said, Shimano guys recommend Shimano reels and Daiwa guys Daiwa reels. Most reels between $150 and $200 are good.

I got some abec 3 bearings on ebay for dirt cheap.  They are in a slow rotation part of the reel so going higher abec is a waste.  Smooth drags are available through their website or our very own DVT.

*** ***. Curado i, and Tatula are all good choices. 

I have the Tatula type R and its a solid reel very smooth and durable bought it a while back and have beat the crap out of it while shore fishing but still works great! The only thing is i have found that it casts just as far as any $200 dollar real w/ out the T-Wing.

But im deffenently glad i bought it! Its a great choice if your looking for a real in the $200 range!...

Yes, go to the store and try to put as many as possible in your hands.

 

See about demoing some reels from the wharehouse.  At that price range, you have a lot of options from manufactures that have been around a long time! 

What options do you like the best on a reel, carbon fiber handle, click drag, etc. start there and narrowing down your choice of reels.

David, I have the REVO SX 6:4:1 Gen 3 and absolutely love it. Used it for everything, no problems dialing it in. I really like it with 12lb flourocarbon tossing square bills. Good choice, you'll like it! I'm actually torn right now between a a Revo SX 7:1:1 or a Lews TP for throwing jigs?!! And I can't get both because I need a new goose gun!!!!

Love my revos, have gen3 stx, rocket and quite a few gen2 sx and stxs, but for under 200 the Tatula type R is the way to go.

Lews guy will recommend a Lews

Get a Lew's Tournament Pro or a BB1 hahaha
