I replaced bearings with boca orange seals in my used 103h. I noticed that freespool is 7 to 8 seconds. Didn't think to test beforehand but it seems like it shoulder be longer.

What are yall experiences? Is mine abnormal?

How well does it actually cast? Take the spool out and make sure that the inductor spring is working properly (the inductor should be pushed towards the spool). I thought free spool was cool, when I first started to upgrade reels. Since then, I realized that it is completely useless.

I've had reels upgraded and supertuned by 3 different people.  My free spool time isn't anywhere near what you can find on youtube.  Maybe I am just no good at spinning the spool.  Doesn't matter to me as casting distance has been excellent on all the reels from all 3 guys.

That's right. Casting is the true test. Spool weight and size, brake system and some other things affect free spool time but don't necessarily have any negative impact on casting. Just curious, did you remove the seals prior to installation and /or spin test each bearing prior? If not, do so. It will make a difference.

You've been cheating? And this close to Valentine's Day? I'm hurt. lol

It casted well before the upgrade, but haven't had it out since. I know free spool isn't the final answer but if there is something wrong I need to fix it before I'm on the water. Maybe I'll do some yard fishing with it later.

And I did remove the seals. Saw a td ito freespool for more than 15 seconds with boca abec7 on youtube.

Is your reel clean? I picked up a used px68 that wouldn't free spool for even 2 seconds. I tore it down and gave it an overhaul. Everything was good to go after that.

Not too bad I hope.    My first reel was done by Trey Harpel before I found this site.  Besides.....a person should try to spread the wealth around.  Just wish someone would send a little my way.    If it helps, you have done more work for me than anyone else.

Yeah I cleaned it. It was bad but now it's smoother and quieter. Not sure how that would affect free spool though.

The spool rim, frame, spool shaft, inside pinion gear will all affect casting performance if not free from contaminants including dirt, oil and grease. And it doesn't take much. 

Are you running the bearings dry? I run them dry and that gives you the best free spool. if you lubed them the type of lube can really slow down the bearings
