Guntersville Questions Re: Color Etc.

Featured Replies

I am making my second trip to Guntersville March 20-April 4. Last year our guide (2 days) had us using Xcaliber Xr-5 in royal shad and chart/white spinnerbaits. Not questioning his advice. We caught a few fish and still have those to use. Just wondering if any of you BR guys who fish Guntersville have an opinion on what else might work at that time? Swimjigs/color, Soft plastics/color, anything else? Thanks a whole lot for any information you are willing to pass on. The main reason I'm asking this is because we will be there for 4 days before we can get our guide and would love to catch a few in those 4 days.

I don't live near the lake but make trips every year. Last year I was only able to fish for 3 days (march 26th-28th). It was in the 40s and 50s the whole time and they were in 7-10 ft on riprap.

For numbers try lipless with red on it. If you want big bass and it is cold use football jigs on the riprap. 1/2 or 3/4.

From all the reports I heard last year that was the only bait catching bigger bass. I caught 5 fish for 25lbs in an hour and a half doing that. It can be slow at times though.

The "Big Fish" on this BassResource RoadTrip was fooled by a GYCB Fat Ika.

7.49 lbs

The most productive lures were XCalibur Xr50 Blue Chrome, white spinnerbait

with double willow blades, Senko, trick worm (split shot) and Rage Craw Rage

Rigged (summer craw).

We caught fish along rip-rap and in the grass in shallow water ripping through

the  grass. Most of our bigger fish were caught offshore on humps near points

drifting the Rage Craw.

Last year's Classic featured the DT6 (Demon), soft swimbaits and Livingston

crankbaits. http://www.bassmaster.com/news/and-how-randy-howells-charmed-last-day-leads-bassmaster-classic-victory

I think I would spend some time with the Alabama Rig, too, if I were you.
