Travel Rod/reel Combo (Telescopic Or 3 Piece)

Featured Replies

I am doing some travelling for work, and the places I am going to have a lake or at least some body of fresh water around it.  I was thinking of buying a telescopic combo rod and reel or a cheap one that I could break down to fit in my suitcase that would allow me to do a little fishing here and there.

It wont get used a lot so a real expensive outfit is not required.  I saw some of the ones at BPS but not sure if the quality is there since it is a very basic combo.

Has anyone ever bought a cheap travel combo for this purpose?  If so, what did you buy and howd it work out

I am leaving on the 22nd, so would like to have something in my hand upon departure

Not sure about your budget but BPS extreme have some  decent travel rods. If you are willing to pay more fenwick methods is also nice.

Not sure if you are looking for casting or spinning combos.. Or your budget. I have a three peice bps extreme travel casting rod and I love it. It comes with a tube, stores compactly andisba fair performing rod. I purchased it over a year ago and threw one of my old curados on it. Stays in my truck with me in between trips. It runs around 100 dollars but might be cheaper with the extremes on sale in the store. They are 80 bucks where I live.(spring classic) Bps also sells a spinning rod, I think it is a browning. Never used it, but it looks like a good travel rod with a nice tube for transport.

Ronco pocket fisherman...

Seriously, a 3 piece rod would be the ticket, a smallish spinning reel..

im not sure what id like to spend at the moment.  i do know it wont get used often at all.  so the quality doesnt really need to be there.  i thought about an ultralight combo.

kinda open at this point

I was even thinking of one of those travel combos that BPS selld.  the shakespear combos or a daiwa combo in the $30-$50 range.  I guess that would be perfect, i wouldnt use it often and i certainly dont need a $100 combo.

I drive most of my business trips for just that reason...however, last year I didn't -- so I went to Walmart and got a $40 spinning combo, used it for a week and a half and on my last day there, I handed it to a young kid at the park when I left.
