Jig Or Texas Rig Craw?

Featured Replies

I just started kayak fishing and need to know what you guys would recommend. I'm fishing a small lake with stained water. I plan on staying shallow, maybe <10 feet. Would I be better off throwing a jig with a trailer, or a flipping style Texas rig? I'm not really concerned with huge size, just want to catch some fish! I have a 6'9'' MH baitcaster with 20# FC.

You usually don't get as many bites with a jig compared to a Texas rigged small worm, but jigs usually will get a bigger bite.

Texas rigged baits usually yield more catches In my expierence. You gotta remember a jigs skirts flare out and present a much larger profile then say a t-rigged rage craw. Becasue of that I feel a jig can intimadate smaller fish, but I have coufht plenty of dinks on jigs. That's just my .02!

if I had to pick only one it would be the t-rig for its versatility, but i wouldn't limit myself to just one or the other...

If you're strictly concerned with catching numbers, then a t-rigged zoom trick worm is hard to beat . Like a shaky head- but for heavier cover.

But if you want to consistently catch the biggest fish in an area- the jig rules.
