I fish Claytor Lake on a regular basis during the spring and summer and have seen many anglers come through the cove I fish that are fishing a tournament. I haven't ever fished a tournament before and I have a buddy with a boat that I could enter with. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any amateur tournaments or simple beginners tournaments on this lake? And also if so, where and how to get information on entering. Thanks for any help and good luck to my fellow fishermen.

Dakota, there is a small Army/Navy Surplus and fishing tackle shop on the main street after you get off of I-81 heading to Radford University.

The store is on your right as you head to Radford University.

Here are the details:

Near the intersection of W Main St and Montgomery St

(540) 639-1038

Give them a call or stop by and see the owner, a very nice lady.

I am sure she will know of any tournaments on Claytor Lake.

If not, isn't there a tackle shop or restaurant close to the lake off I-81?

And if you can contact the Radford University fishig club they may have some information for you but they are college kids and I don't suppose they will view their club's emails. But who knows, funnier things have happened before.

The Sportsman is right off I-81 under exit 105, they may know of some tournaments as well as Elliot's, as sam said, may be one of your best bets.

Take Exit 98 on 81. Its the Dublin exit. If your on 81 north you will turn right at the end of the ramp. Go about 5-6 miles and Rock House Marina will be on your left. They hold weekly tournaments there and Mike can probably tell you all the dates of the other tournaments on the lake.
