I have been tying pretty much the same thing as a fly for about 10 years :)  I don't use the jig head but instead wrap the hook shank with lead.  Another option is to tie a zonker which is a rabbit strip all along the back of the fly extending out to the tail, one of my favorite flies of all time by far.

Forgot to mention, the head is 1/8oz and the hook is a 4/0 Lightwire I get custom made from Sieberts.
