I was looking at the Johnny Morris CarbonLite Baitcast Combo on BPS since they are on sale at the moment but their heavy rods have an XFAST action which doesn't seem ideal.

 

What do you guys look for in terms of action for your pitching stick?

I pitch with a duckett 7-6 extra heavy and a 7-10 ex heavy

Most of the rods I use for pitching are XFast and work just fine for me.

My pitching rod is a Fenwick Aetos 7'2" MH-XF, the extra fast is awesome to pitch with as long as you aren't using braid. Why is an extra fast action that is really stiff good for pitching? It works because the rod loads up very quick and it is only a small section that is loading so it makes for easy control but it is too stiff for braid. You would have to actually check the rod out if it an extra fast because there are extra fast tips that are softer but normally most worm and jig rods that are MH or H in power with an extra fast action are pretty stiff.

I like your argument, but I am pretty set on using braid since they point will be to throw into the thickest stuff and I don't want to get below 50lbs braid. I guess I should look for a F action in that case.

x2. My pitching rod is also a 7'2" MH XF (Shimano Crucial). I really like it. soft tip with lots of backbone. I exclusively use 15-20 lb flouro and it works great. If you plan on throwing braid i would step the action down to a fast-modfast.

I like an XF or F aswell. I usually pitch light plastics and jigs.

Too stiff for braid?  We're pitching jigs and plastics here not casting cranks.  I'm not sure it is possible to be too stiff for braid.
