Tube Rod

Featured Replies

I fish mainly jigs, tubes, and plastics but usually on baitcasters. I am thinking about building a new spinning rod to start using for them. I am currently using a 7' 10" baitcaster with a really soft tip that lets me cast those light baits. I am thinking around 7' and 8 or 10 line. Just would like to be able to use dropshit baits and other finesse baits too. Thanks and any input is appreciated!

7'10" is actually really good for tubes, Matt Allen uses a 7'8" dobyns, if you're going to dropshot too a 7'6" would probably be ideal.

I mostly use 1/4 exposed tube jigs with a 3.5 inch tube. I throw these on either a 7'ml st croix or 7'm st croix. After a season with both I like the medium better for the tubes but the medium light is better for drop shot and many other presentations for me.

I got into rod building so that I would have technique specific options and Baston has a great blank I built one on specifically for tubes. It's a Forecast SP841 and I believe that designation is applicable to their Rainshadow line as well.  I did mine as a casting rod with a spiral wrap this winter and can't wait to use it.  If you're interested, GetBit has them in a kit on sale now until they're gone.

The one I have been using is spiral wrapped with micro guides. Its built on an MHX blank. I was just wanting a spinning rod because I feel it is easier to skip the lighter tubes with them
