Going through tackle while iced in and had some questions about the scrounger. I used these a little last year and had some success. What is your favorite bait to use on these? I read that flukes are a favorite but my success came on small swimbaits in the fall when bass were feeding on small Shad. Do you guys throw these into cover? It just feels like It would get hung up a lot to me. And lastly what is the best/favorite way to fish them. Thanks for any info. guys.

I just picked up a few sizes and plan on using this technique a lot this year. I'm looking forward to what people have to say, but from what I've gathered it's mainly a personal preference thing.

 

I'm planning on using flukes for open water/light cover and using creature baits/craws around laydowns and heavy cover.

 

Should be fun.

Somebody else on another thread made the comparison of scroungers to chatterbaits or blade jigs. They both are relatively weedless thru cover. I like to use more neutral action baits like a fluke or a sluggo behind them as the lip imparts the action to the plastic trailer. Flappin shads like the gambler bait with a vertical tail work good. You don't want the plastic trailer to over power the action of the plastic lip. Very slow retrieves keeping the bait close to the bottom work well. You can also swim it mid depth or keep it high over a weed tops.

Flukes, Trick Worms, Paddle Tails, Lizards, Lobsters.  That is about all you will need!

A scrounger comes through light to moderate cover surprising well.

 

You can fish it wrong as long as you fish it low & slow.

What ever you do don't fish a scrounger/fluke combo! Wasting your time and money.
