So I just got an older loomis cbr 783 for $100. It seems like a pretty whippy rod though. Has anyone used this rod? What baits can it support? Im a little concerned about using heavier baits.

I know that. I meant like can it take a pro model strike king, 1.5,2/5 dt 6 , spro md etc etc

I have the same rod and it works great for DT4's but just OK for a DT6.

I had the 843 & 844 CBR, I used the 844 all the time, never really used the 843 much. Although it did throw 3/8 just fine.. The 844 threw everything really well for me.

Casted it around in my underground garage with a jig and this rod is awesome, all for $100 shipped.

I have this rod.  I like it but it took me awhile to get use to it.   It has more power than it appears to have.  Hooks set are a little weird too.  I can't really explain it but once you use it, you will see what I mean.  

 

I would say this rod works best with light weight cranks that dive to 4 to 10 feet.  

 

Bottom line, it is an odd rod but a good rod that takes some getting use to.

Before I really jumped into fishing I would use a 66mf fenwick hmg. Im used to that rod and its a little bit lighter than a f.
