Awesome Feeling...sold My First Rod

Featured Replies

Well since I started doing my own rods I've had a few people interested I traded one for a bow rack and sold my second one to a guy I coyote hunt with. Just a ice rod the blue one in my other threads. He asked if I could build one for him a few weeks ago and how much I shot him a price of $50 barely covering the cost of the build not accounting for my time but it's a ice rod so I didn't want to go to high. He agreed and I ordered the parts.

Well today he finally came and picked it up its been finished for about a week now but work schedules didn't work out till today. I gave him his rod he looked ever inch of it over I was nervous the whole time because I was beating my self up over the build I found so many things I didn't like one wrap out of place a scratch I didn't buff out of the clear coat a speck of China marker I didn't catch and wipe off all itty bitty tiny stuff It took me over a week of looking the thing over to find. Anyways he looked it over and over played with the action a bit said he absolutely loved it and it would be perfect for perch on Lake Erie.

I was so relieved and ecstatic he like it and wants a few more and is going to show his brother in law who showed Intrest also.

Now if I could only catch something on the one I built for myself.

Congrats. It's a great feeling when the client is happy with your work. Like most of us you'll be your own worst critic. One of the hardest things for me to overcome has been going back fiddling with minor imperfections only to make things worse and cause rework for myself.

I'm never happy with rods I put out. The customers are always tickled and can't find a single flaw! I beat myself up for nothing.

After looking at the wraps on a NRX I have in for some modifications, I'm never gonna worry about a single gap in a wrap again. I can't believe what Loomis sells for $500 and up!

Yeah o was looking at my fenwick elite ice rod today and was thinking the same thing about the quality of the wraps and then the finish with drips and bubbles. Looks like it's wraped with size d thread looks more like rope then anything
