Best Largemouth Lake In Va

Featured Replies

Hey guys I haven't had a chance to fish many of the lakes and rivers in VA. I mainly fish lake Anna because it's close. I was wondering for those of you who have gone to multiple different lakes which one would you say is the best for bass fishing? I would like to take some trips this summer to go fish some so what is my best bet? Which is the best?

South Holston.

Followed by Briery Creek.

I would say Briery Creek, but only because it

is listed as a top bass fishery by VGDIF.

Never fished it myself, but know some who

have.

I like Briery as well but Sandy is better in my opinion, they are both near each other too so it is more than feasible to fish the morning at one, grab some lunch and then hit up the other.  Sandy also allows night fishing which is pretty cool

I assume you mean public body of water and if that's the case, I have no idea.  Lots of private bodies of water with awesome trophy bass populations in VA, most of them, we will never hear about.

Suffolk Virginia has the best bass lakes in va in my opinion ...: but I'm a tamiami trail okeechobee Kissimmee chain raised boy ....: what do I know

Should give Smith Mountain Lake a try, might not be the best lake but its a great lake. the largemouth population out numbers the smallmouth 10 to 1. Plus it has some great scenery and is a very relaxing environment. if you can during the week its better because of less traffic on the water. the dock fishing is great, and there are a ton of docks on SML...

one of the best lakes is brierycreek lake ,many citations have been caught there. look in dgif sight

Great pics, Wayne.

Although all of the above are good options, I love Lake Gaston. Gaston has big fish and just about any type of structure and/or cover you would possible want.  Just about any technique or lure you could think of will catch fish on this lake.  It is loaded with largemouth bass, stripers, warmouth, crappie, bowfin and catfish. Any of them could hit your lure on the next cast. It is not as crowded as Anna, Smith Mtn. Lake, Buggs Island or Briery Creek. It is a large lake with lots of creeks, coves, bridges, boat docks, bluffs and stump fields. It lacks good facilities such as motels and restaurants, except on the upper end, at Bracey.  Otherwise, it is always my choice for a weekend or a few days of relaxing fishing.

I would say the Potomac River, but I live close to the river and fish it all the time.  I really think that it is currently the best fishery in the state, Lake Gaston is a great change of pace.

Good Fishin'.......

I would love the opportunity to fish Briery or several others , need to get my daughters aluminum boat fixed first though , Anna does have her moments but she is a big bass fishery , 4 eight pounders in just 5 days this past week means the girls are moving up and it should be an exciting time right now , all in all though , you have a beautiful big bass lake in your back yard and I wish I lived a lot closer to her like you do LOL !!

Take this prime opportunity to do some scouting , large expansive flats hold some prime fish right now like back in the shallows of the old Anna River , look for some of the grassy areas and target those as well !!
