Rod Guide Replacement

Featured Replies

I have a Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier Rod that one of my friends accidently stepped on during a fishing outing.  It bent one of the eyes pretty bad (its the third eye from the reel seat and its a Fuji Alconite guide) and cracked the epoxy covering the thread that wraps around the guide foot.  Does anyone on here repair these types of things and if so, how much do you think it would be to repair this?

Tom,

There are lots of guys on here who could probably fix your rod, but the high cost of shipping rods makes it cost prohibitive. Example: I could replace the guide on your rod for less than $20, but it would cost 25 or 30 dollars each way to ship it. Your best bet is look in the phone book or 'google' a rod builder in your area. I bet you can find a local tackle shop near you that will repair it reasonably. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice and the estimate.  I sure hope I can find somebody close.  I only have 40 in the rod anyway but I really like it and I hope I can get it back in working order again.

Big Tom,

Call a couple of your local tackle shops... almost every one around here has a guy that makes repairs... none work for the store directly, they just have an agreement. (and usually business cards at the shop)  You can (usually) drop it off at the shop or at the guy's house.

Hell, get really inspired, and re-wrap it yourself.  There are thousands of tutorials on how to do it!  My brother in law could teach me in person, but it's a great skill to have, jut because!  ;)  It doesn't really look all that hard.  In the mean time, just buy another rod, if it was only 40 bucks...  You could always just replace it?  What about warranty?
