Expanding my playbook---Spinnerbaits

Featured Replies

I am trying to expand my playbook by expanding my knowledge on spinnerbaits.  Right now the bass are in transition and spend most of the day on the 4-6 foot flatts.  The water temp is about 57-58 degrees, semi-stained water, water visibility of about 4 feet.

What is the best spinnerbait and best way to use them on...

1. A sunny windy day

2. A sunny calm day

3. A cloudy windy day

4. A cloudy calm day

Thanks,

Pat

i like a overcast windy day.  With the chop on the water, the bass will be able to ambush easier, as the cloud cover and choppy surface will allow them to get closer to their prey.

Regardless of how you fish a spinner bait run it into every thing you can  :)

i was fishing my home lake yesterday and the bass are kind of in the same situation yours are in. they are getting ready to spawn in the back of woody, lilly pad covered bays and sloughs. when the wind would pick up, i'd toss either a white or chartreuse spinnerbait. i ended up getting them on the chartreuse. but a few days ago i got them on the white....so i really don't know. just experiment i guess. but i would not throw a spinnerbait on a sunny calm day, that's when i'd start to pitch a jig & pig.

I was curious about this too.  I have heard that any lure is best in choppy water, under cloudy conditions.  :)  The murky water might want a chartreuse colored spinner?  Clear waters white.  :)  I think I have heard that right?

Those are good largie rules overcast and choppy.

For smallies lots and lots of times the sunnier and calmer the harder they pound spinnerbaits they also will bite spinnerbaits in the overcast.

For largies the big thing is to hit something and then keep the blade turning but leave the spinnerbait in the same spot. This takes some practice but I some times double skirt to get this effect.

WEll i know that a overcast choppy day is good for any lure... I just wanted to know if there were any presentations or colors that work on the other day.. Im trying to be able to catch fishing anytime of the day, and on any type of day will many different types of lures.  Thanks all for the input so far.
