Peacock Bass In Fort Lauderdale/boynton Beach Area?

Featured Replies

Hey, I'm headed down to Florida over April break and I've heard the peacock bass fishing has been really good there lately. Does anyone know of some canals in this area that I can fish?

Thanks

Welds

The canal between lake Ida and lake Osborne. Fish the cement walls during high sun and you can sight fish them and catch on an X-rap.

Thanks! Do you know where along the canal there is access?

Best bet is launching at Ida and traveling the canals north towards Osborne.

What size boat? If rooftop you can launch at the canal at 23rd ave near the bridge that crosses 95.

You have caught peacocks @ lake Ida bridge, they are still there, also all the way back in the park by the canal there is platform, I've caught them there.  I'd use a topwater lure because of the vegetation.  They are pretty much any where in the El Rio canal, near bridges and culverts are good spots, plenty of foot access.  I prefer fishing them on foot, I can walk the banks and sight cast.  Quite often I have to tease them with multiple casts, crappie jigs and in line spinners work well for that.

I know for an absolute fact they can be caught near where you stay, I've caught about 20 of them there.  I've only caught them in 2 locations, there has to be other places in the connecting canals.

Thanks, I'll check that area out again. It would be awesome to get a peacock on topwater

PM me your trip info and I'll see if we can get together and get some peacocks for you.

Topwater is great, I still catch the majority of them on small jigs.  Got this one today.
