Rod Repair Help

Featured Replies

I have a shimano Cruicial rod and the tip guide ceramic insert has fallen out.  Is there a type of glue, epoxy or adhesive that any of you would reccomend?

Im not talking about the whole tip guide, im just talking about the small round insert in the guide.

Thanks.

I don't know about the insert.  Is it chipped, cracked or broken?  Thought they were pressed in which is concerning if it fell out or came loose.  Could have a problem with the insert that can't be fixed.

You might be able to get some devcon 2-ton and carefully exopy it back in.  But, if they are pressed in, not sure of getting the exact fit that is needed, and, it will probably fall back out again.  Might want to consider just having the top replaced.

Wouldn't the warranty cover something like that? I've never had to use any of the warranties, so i wouldnt know.

A "good" tip top costs under $3.00  Just replace it.  Almost every tackle shop will replace it for you if you buy the tip top from them.

They are usually secured with a hot melt adhesive, although sometimes an epoxy is used.

Rod Tip Repair

When the frame of the tip top was made that is when the shock ring is added. You can glue it but it won't stay when the rod tip is flexed in a fight.

Just my .02¢ from the rod bench. ;)

Good Luck & Tight Lines...

You can replace it yourself, just be sure that the tip top fits snug, and that the ring is the same size as the old one.

In most cases you can apply some heat to the tip top and pull it off with a pair of pliers. When your ready to put the new one on, clean the tip of the rod, use 5 minute epoxy, apply on rod tip only, put on tip top

Aline best you can by eye have paper towel to wipe dripping epoxy off. Now the trick on how to get your guides to line up. You may want to try this before you put the tip top on. Take your rod put the tip on a light color wall, holding the handle, bring the rod to about a 45 degree angle or until you can look up the rod to see how the tip top lines up with the rest of the guides.Twist tip top Left or right as needed, remember, your using 5 minute epoxy, so don't take all day to line it up. The reason for 5 minute epoxy, if you need to remove it, just add heat.

Good luck
