New Experience To Me

Featured Replies

I've been really working to get my jig fishing skills better. I gave it a lot of good effort last year and didn't get much in the way of progress.

The ice is now off the water and I've been throwing a 1/4oz Terminator arky head jig with a Rage Craw trailer, dipped in methylate JJ's Magic and man does it work. I've been lighting them up. I followed the advice given in BassResource's cold water jig fishing video and just barely hop it up and down and they just smash it, even in cold dirty water. My Terminator jig got demolished this weekend, so I've got some Siebert's on the way, which will be much more durable.

So I'm excited about that.

What differences would or should I implement for jigs when the water's warmer? Anything?

Same line?  Same rod?  Aside from presentation, are you doing anything else different from last year when progress was slow?

Not really. My rod, while new is the same action, same line, new but same ratio reel. The only difference is the slower....much slower presentation

The biggest difference in jig fishing warm water versus cold water for me is the size of the jig and the trailer. In cold water I'm often using less than 1/4oz and I use chunks for the trailer most of the time but I also use a pork strip. In warm water I'm normally throwing over 1/4oz and my trailers will often have action like a rage craw.

This is on my list for ice out, i got the jerkbaigs down. Have to perfect the jig. I have no comfidence in a jig below 50* water.... So just keep it low and slow ??

Read this a little too late, just ordered some dredge brush, mata and nest rubber, all brush heads no arkie...

In warmer water you can try working it faster with bigger hops, what we call stroking. Pop it up off the bottom quickly & then let it sit.

You can keep fishing it slow with short hops

Play around with different speeds, height of hops, the bass will tell ya what they like.
