So I'm getting ready to get a trolling motor for my canoe. Would you guys look at the 30 or 55 pound thrust motors? I know one is just faster in theory but curious if yall think bigger is even worth it.

What size/weight is your canoe? The 30 lb. sounds way too under powered. I use a 40 lb. model on my kayak.

It is a 14 foot michiccraft aluminum canoe. From what I can find ( it's and older canoe) it's in the 60-80 pound range.

 

Get the biggest you can afford - I went 55 Minn Kota been happy.

55 lb., what I use. Shall we all recite the mantras, "better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it." Or "bigger is better." If you're worried about battery usage, carry an extra. But I've found that extra power comes in handy more often than not.
