Is Yo Zuri ultra soft just as good as the original? I can get the ultra soft much cheaper than the original.

I tried it and have gone back to the original.

I hated it. I just typed this in another thread but I will repeat myself here. 

 

I bought some ultra soft and within a week of fishing 2-3 hours a day (so 14-20 hours ish) it was milky white and brittle (broke like hair). I respooled and the same thing happened again. Thinking I got a bad batch I contacted yo-zuri. They said they have never heard of that happening before and asked me to send in the remainder of my 600yd spool for them to inspect, and in the meantime sent me a new spool and a hat. Well I tried the new spool and the same thing happened so I contacted them again. They said they didn't know what the cause was and offered to reimburse me what i paid for the spool or to send me regular yo zuri since I have never had a problem with that. I asked for the regular yo-zuri and they sent me two 275 yard spools, I have had the line on my reel since they sent it and its still good. I used the rod the other day and the line was as fresh as when I put it on back in August. I have never had any line do what that ultra-soft did, so I would NOT recommend it. 

In a word, and in my opinion...no.

 

I have a 600 yard spool of 4 lb test and it is 

stronger than rated, more like a good 6 lb test

line. But I don't use it except for certain 

situations, i.e., when I feel like it, LOL.

 

I use regular YZH and like it as a leader much

better than the soft.

I have gone to ONLY #15 YZ ultra soft/ mint green for all of my inshore rods and all of my bass rods that are bottom contact. (Jigs, Texas rigs, Carolina rig) I have never had a single issue with it and like I said. ...its all I use exclusively now. The thing i like over regular hybrid is the mint green color and its resistance to kinking when backlashed. Also its becoming easier to find on sale than regular hybrid. I have a few 600yd spools of #12 hybrid/smoke that I use for topwaters and moving baits.

I guess its just preference.
