Treble Hook Issues

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any spot on modifications to prevent treble hooks from hooking into the sides/stomachs of fish? Seems every other bass i catch has an entire barb end up somewhere that isnt its mouth. Cant imagine getting shanked near organs is a pleasant experience for these guys

As opposed to a hook going up through the roof on the mouth and into an eye ball ?

Maybe switch all you treble hooks out for barbless single J-hooks.

Fishing is a contact sport - might not be for everybody.

Debarb your hooks. Using a smaller lure may also prevent hooks from hooking the fish's body.

Bass will strike the head of their prey head first the majority of the time and so will be hooked on the front treble. The back end of your lure then thrashes arond and often the back hooks will catch .

The only way to 'fix' that would be to remove all but the front or back hook. You'll likely miss a good percentage of fish though.

Short answer: no.

Yea ive noticed that, also had one strike the back and still get front hooked, felt sorry for the guy because it gave him a good half inch gash right between the gills
