Lew's Reels Or Abu Garcia

Featured Replies

I just picked up my first baitcaster (Lew's Tournament SK which is similar to the Tournament from what I understand) and have been pretty happy. I've been able to get it dialed in and only had a single backlash. I have no way to compare it apples to apples to another caster but it has been newbie friendly for sure. It is quite smooth but with that said, everything is plastic so reliability down the road may be an issue. Has been well worth the $100ish so far.

Abu Garcia & Lew's both make great reels! I definitely give the edge to Lew's reels being an owner of 3...(BB1 & 2 Tournament MG) Once dialed in = trouble free! The bottom line is personal preference in all honesty!

They maybe made at the same factory but Lew's is a totally separate reel company. They are headquartered right near BPS in Springfield Mo. If you notice, BPS does not sell Lews. From what I understand, Johnny Morris had a fallen out with them. Personally, I think he is using his business power to bully them. Anyway, I've used a few Lews reels and a lot of guys are going to them because of the lower cost and they are happy with them. I like them but not enough to shelf my Shimanos.

There is a small fishing store in Springfield about 5 blocks from Bass Pro that sells Lews reels. I go there all the time because they sell some stuff that Bass Pro doesnt sell, like the Lews rods and reels. The only baitcasters they carry anymore are Lews because when they sold other brands the Lews outsold them so much. Anyway, the new Lews headquarters is being built right next to the interstate and will get A LOT of exposure. Anyway...

I like the Lews reels I have used.  I have a $100 lews reel that casts incredibly.  I however feel as thought he Revo S's I own have more power.  I like both and I would suggest either reel to anyone
