Hey everyone

 

I have 10lb flouro on my drop shot rod and it worked last year but I would like to go smaller this year (6-8Lb). I am also buying a new baitcaster and I would like to put 10lb fluoro on it, can i just spool it from one reel to the other or am I better off getting new 10lb with the 6-8lb I buy.

 

Let me know, line isn't that expense but if I could but another lure or weights or whatever I much rather do that.

I'm sure that it would work.... it would just be complicated. You have to make sure that the line is going on the spool correctly, so that the line doesn't get reeled on backwards.

Great thanks for the advice. I usually like to put a weight on the end of the line and let it all out behind the boat while its moving and reel it back in. Would this correct if I were to reel it on backwards.

Not sure what is meant by this but with a baitcaster you will be fine. I would still let it out behind the boat the get any line twist from the spinning reel out. Also you have the advantage of using a part of your line that is like new. This line has been coiled tighter than the outermost part of the line so it will have some memory. Just another reason why letting it out behind the boat is a good idea.

Fluorocarbon line has memory. If you spool on the fluorocarbon line the opposite way of the memory, everytime you cast, your line will have a tendency to "jump" off the spool. Not actually jump, but it just wont be spooled on tightly enough.

Spooling the line off the spinning reel and onto a casting reel will place mostly "Un-fished" line on the top of the spool of the casting reel. So you should be good there.

 

I will say 10 lb line is a little light for a casting reel.

 

Especially if this is your first one and you're learning to cast it, I'd recommend learning with 15 lb line.

 

You'll find the learning curve shorter.

The problem with that is that its coming from a spinning spool to a baitcast spool. There will be no way to insure that it stays like that. Which is why its a good idea to troll the line out with a sinker with a swivel ( the heavier the better) to remove the line twist and as much memory as you can.

After I think about it, what you are saying is true. There is no perfect and precise way to make sure that the line gets transferred properly, with no line twist or memory.
