EVH Dilemma

Featured Replies

So I have a dilemma. I really like the look of the new foam split grip rods that have hit the market recently (steez, cumara, zillion, etc.) but I'm reluctant to use EVH to build my handles because I've heard that it isn't very durable and it breaks down after use. What have been your experiences with EVH grips, do they hold up well enough? Are there any alternative foam grips that work better?

I have two rods that answer the durability question. Both are Team Daiwa, both purchased new, somewhere around 1993. One pistol grip baitcaster and one spinning rod.

Both have black EVA grips. They are 15 years old and have seen a lot of use. If I use a little soap and water, the EVA still looks new. No rips, tears, or splitting to be seen.

I think hypalon is supposed to be kind of like upgraded eva.  I use eva as little as possible.  I don't like it much.  If you keep your eva rods indoors when not in use, they will last MANY years.  Leave them outdoors and they will only last a couple.
