Got a new rig, Pfleuger President and a Berkley 7' Med rod. Was recommended to try a superline with this setup, Sufix 832 Advanced Superline in 20 lb test. I bought the line at BPS for $45, 300 yrds. Sounds expensive but I guess it isn't. I had them spool it. The salesman put it on and afterwards I thought gee, I probably wasted a lot of line. I mean, heck, most of my casts are fairly short and max is probably 30 yds. And it will be rare to break braid, so, that line underneath is just going to waste? Would you put a filler line on first and if so, what? Any tips if I want to remove some of what I have on it now? How much filler, how much braid?

I always use backing. I just got a couple presidents spooled yesterday at a local sale. Only put 100 yards of 15 pound fins wind tamer on each. Also if you use backing when ya buy money those 300 yard spools ya can do attack least three reels off one spool. Saves some cash in the long run. And using a backing can't prevent line slip on the spool opposed to straight braid

Never hurts to use backing, especially a reel with ore than ample capacity.

For just bass fishing, I'd use a backing.  If the reel was going to see double-duty for inshore saltwater fishing like most of my spinning reeels w/ braid do, then I fill the spool completely with braid.

I always use backing. Just enough to cover the spool. When you hook that lunker you will know why.

If the braid is tied into the holes in the center hub of the spool, it can't slip, right?

 

I like that idea of putting all braid on and then reversing the braid in second season for two years of fishing. Seems like a good idea, lol.
