Mono Vs Braid For Spinnerbaits, Advantages/disadvantages?

The strength of the braid.

I been using the Excalibur silver thread copolymer line for decades.

But I understand the braid is better in weeds, Lilly pads, Rocky areas if money in on the line. But I remember when braid was tough on reels and rods too.

If your fishing them in tons of grass like I tend to do with spinners and chatter baits the braid make a huge difference in ripping them clean. It also make it was easier to know when the blades are turning.

I don't use braid for spinnerbaits and I use them in grass a lot. I also agree braid rips through grass much better than anything else but I need to have a little stretch, not much but more than braid. I'm not the type to knock it before I tried it and I have tried it, braid isn't for me when it comes to spinnerbaits, for me it is a quality mono or copolymer when spinnerbaits are being uses even in grass. The 2 advantages brad has over mono is strength for diameter of line and the way it cuts through grass, that is basically it. Mono on the other hand offer some stretch which means you won't be in much danger of pulling the hook out of the fish and you don't need a leader in clear water so less knots to worry about but I don't see needing a leader with braid for a spinnerbait but a lot will especially in lightly stained or clear water.

I like using braid because I cast spinnerbaits as far as possible and when I get a bite and the fish is far away I have no loss of hook set effectiveness at that distance.

To each their own. I use braid and like that i can feel everything. I dont want stretch, and there isnt much risk of ripping the hook out if you dont swing for the fences.

i use mono for everything, and before line stretch comes into play my hook is already set in the fish...

I was using mono when mono was all that was available and I still do. I don't use braid for anything. Mono for spinnerbaits has been great for me and I rarely lose a fish on one....If I do it's my fault, not the mono.

Nothing rips weeds like braid all depends on where and how you fish.
