Drag Has Stopped Working On Curado I

Featured Replies

The drag has virtually stopped working. If I tighten it all the way, it works a little, but it takes very little pressure to pull the line out with the spool engaged. Is there anything I can check or do?

First question is always are you running braid and if so did you use backing?

DVT - are you asking because that is/could be the problem?

I'm actually curious because many say just to spool the entire

reel with braid if you can afford it. I always tie on maybe 10 or

so yards of mono, then the braid.

But wondering about this topic all together.

I have one Curado I that if I back with braid straight to the spool, it slips and the drag does not work. I have never had that problem on any of my other reels but with this one Curado it does it. I just stripped the braid, put electrical tape around the spool and put the braid back on and now it's perfect. Haven't had a problem since. So if you are using braid with no backing then that is more than likely the problem.

Nailed it right on the head, Mike. I have been using 65 lb braid with no backing. Lol what have I done?

Thanks. I'll have to give that a shot.

I prefer to use backing for all but about 75 yards of braid. All you need to fix your problem is a few layers or a strip of tape. Just something to give some bite for the braid.

Put a few strips of tape down and the problem is gone. I guess I'm just used to tying to wiffle spools like on the revos. Never had that problem before. Thanks, Mike from DVT and JGBassin.

Out of curiosity, what tape would you use to back the reel? I have been using mono but tape would be quicker and easier.

I use 2 wraps of electrical tape on all my spools that I run straight braid on. Works great.

I just used some 1/4" masking tape i had laying around and reeled it on the spool. So far so good. Haven't fished with it yet though.
