Spike It Jig-N-Coat Powder Paint

Featured Replies

I am having a little trouble with this stuff. I used a lighter to heat up some jig heads but they are not coming out glossy. I thought this was happing because the jigs were not hot enough. This time I heated them up a little more and the led melted. I was thinking that if I put them in the oven it will heat them evenly and may work better. Will they melt? How long do I put them in for? What Temp? Is it safe in your oven used for cooking?

You just haven't found the happy medium point.

This is what I do:

Use a pair of forceps to hold the jig. Pliers will work but you will always have to apply pressure to hold them.

Use a can of sterno that you can buy at any local department store. This beats a lighter because the flame is larger and you don't need to hold the fire source.

Make sure the powder is loose and fluffy

For about a 1/4 oz jig it might take 7-9 seconds. Just move the lead about/above the flame

Dip it into the powder and I guess you know the rest.

I did learn something. Not all powder paints yield shiny coats. Some come out really nice and other come out crappy. Have fun anyway. :(

go to wally mart and get a little toaster oven.  This way you can get the right heat and an even heat.  Plus you can cure the paint.  I would think this paint is like any other powder paint and needs cured.

I use to use the lighter deal years ago.  Its a waste of alot of time and paint. Just my opinion.

Like GMAN said, go with the oven. Turn it on about 250, pop in your jigs for 20 minutes, get them out with pliers, dip in the powder, and put them back in the oven for 20 more minutes after dipping.

actually bud i found that when you heat up the lead a dip it in the powder, when you take it out hit it with the flame again- this will give it the shine and harden it up, give it a try!

Go to youTube and search for "Powder Paint Tackle".  There are some great free videos with tips on powder painting.
