Duckett Micro Magic Pro

Featured Replies

So I've been looking to add another rod to my arsenal, but am suck between a 7' mh and 7' heavy duckett micro magic pro. I will mostly throw jigs 3/8 ounce on there. Would a heavy be too much of a "meat stick" to throw those? But I may also throw bigger plastics as well as a frog now and then. It will be comboed with a Lews team lite. What do you guys think? Thanks!

I have a medium 7' Micro Magic. I love the rod, best rod I have owned, it seems to be a little light though so I don't think that it would be to heavy.

Use the heavy

Yea I was also thinking heavy because I already own a 6'8" mh ghost.

Get the Heavy. I have both & while the MH will handle 3/8 & 1/2 oz jigs well. If you even have the remote possibility of throwing frogs or jigs in slop, you will want the extra power to pull the fish out fast. I use my 7'MH for open water/ light cover jigs & t-rigs and the 7'H for jigs/t-rigs/frogs in slop.

I have a great deal of Xp with Duckett and I can say the one you want is the Heavy action for what you are looking to do. You will love it. Those are really fantastic fishing rods.

Thanks a lot guys. I just got the heavy rod. Can't wait to use it. Hopefully it'll arrive before my next tournament!

How do you like it? Really contemplating on buying it

Theangler1, how do you like your Ghost?  I have the same model and am becoming a huge fan. The tip is perfect for cranks.

I love the ghost! Definetly a great light rod. The medium heavy is a tad in the lighter side. So the biggest lure i like to use on it is around 3/8 oz. great rod overall. No complaints

Yes, I was throwing an Arashi 5 last weekend in 5/8 oz.  It was too much.  I could get by with a 1/2 oz

Do you know what the taper is on the 6'8" MH? Doesn't say on TW. I throw a lot of stuff in the 3/8oz range, does it have a hard time handling that?

I find it odd if not outright bizarre that they don't list lure weight ranges. You might also find the "Loose Grip" thread interesting. I'm not quick to bash, humans make mistakes, myself included. How you respond is what seperates the wheat from the chaff though.

No, 3/8 oz would be fine.  From my 3 trips with it I wouldn't go over a 1/2 oz just felt like it couldn't handle it.  I wouldn't throw a 1/2 oz jig on it either though.  The tip is a little soft for a MH rating.  Good for shallow to mid cranks, spinnerbaits, senkos, more finesse type plastics.

Interesting, out of all the reviews I've read no one mentioned this. They all said it's light but I guess I didn't make the connection. Sounds like I'm back on the hunt based on the lure selection you listed it for

I would agree that 1/2 would be pushing it on that rod. But it is rather soft for a mh but does handle big fish well. I would also say that the action is almost a between fast and moderate which makes the mh act like a medium.
