Painting "Weedless" jig heads?

Featured Replies

Gunna be making some jigs over the winter and I found a place where I can get some unpainted weedless jig heads for pretty cheap but Im not sure how to paint them :-/ I love powder paint for all my regular jig heads and weights but cant powder paint these cause of the weed guard :( Should I use something like the vinyl jig paint from Janns Netcraft or could I use some acrylic or enamal hobby paints? also can I add gliter/flake to any of these paints? and what do ya'll use as a top coat?

Thanks for any help :)

You are right, powder painting a jig with the weedguard in is impossible. You should ask if they will sell the jigs to you with the weedguards separately so you can paint them yourself and then put the weedguards in afterwards.  It's one less thing for them to do so they might not mind.

For topcoat I use Devcon 2 Ton. It has it's pros and cons.

I recently purchased some of the dick nite's top coat after reading a lot of good reviews.  I have not tested it enough to give a fair review but it appears to be a great product. (PM me for a discount code on the Dick Nites).

Let us know how you make out with the jigs.

I use black or brown inexpensive fingernail polish.  Overcoat the nail polish with Devcon 2 ton epoxy.

If you are buying them ready made use any paint you want. The fish don't care. I have caught many fish on unpainted heads, after all do you paint your sinkers on the front of Trigged worms?

Color and paint is not nearly as important as presentation and type of retrieve.

Paint is for the fisherman more than it is for the fish.

Paint is for the fisherman more than it is for the fish.

Hence the phrase"catching the fisherman or catching the fish!"

I also believe that unless you are fishing Ultra clear waters or extremely shallow, color does not play a HUGE role in catching.

JMOH it may be right, it may be wrong

But yes we all can get carried away when it comes to making our own.

After all there are alot of cool colors out there! ;D

LOL I do! Im kind of obbsessed with detail ::( I feel like if it can get me one more bite then its worth it ;D

I to need them powder painted, try wrapping the weedguard in tinfoil then painting and curing at 250-290 for a longer period of time (like 30 minutes)I haven't done it in a while but it does work
