I have the Abu Garcia Veracity 7' Med. Mod rod currently.  I have it paired with a Shimano Curado 6:5.1 reel.  I like the sensitivity of it and the feel when casting and retrieving lures.  I use it with squarebills, jerkbaits and lipless crank baits.  The problem and questions I have are when setting the hook on fish I do lose some from not getting a good deep hook set which is causing lost fish.  My hooks are sharp so that's not the problem  and I am using a sweeping motion hook set.  

 

Would you recommend going to a Medium mod-fast? or MH moderate rod?

What kind of line are you using? I like a fluoro without a lot of stretch (a familiar subject) it seemed to help me when using a moderate action rod. Don't forget sometimes bass will just head butt a crank and that's a tough hook up, basically have to hope to snag it on the side of the head. Had it happen to me last year with lipless cranks and I finally saw a bass do it up close a realized what was happening

I wait for the rod to load up then I sweep with the hookset.  I tried waiting a touch longer like I would with a topwater but it didn't seem to make a difference.

your set up should be fine, you might try changing the color of the crankbait a little to see if you get a more aggressive strike, that's what the pro's do when they are hitting a crank light.

Your issue isn't rod, reel, or line related, it is the fish and the bait. In my opinion, what it sounds like is happening based on your description is that the bass are just swiping at the crank, you will know when this happens as the fish you land will either have 1 point of the rear treble barely holding on to the lip or it will be hooked somewhere on the outside of the mouth. Sometimes a change in color will make them eat it better or a change in size, or change both size and color. You have the right bait, it has the fish interested but they aren't fully committing to it.

Definitely don't wait with crankbaits. Sweep set whenever you feel them hit it or if you feel the bait stop wiggling. You're gonna lose fish on crankbaits more than other baits, but a soft rod is going to help you out. A medium should be fine unless you are throwing some really deep diving crankbaits. If they're not grabbing the bait like you want them to, switch colors or baits.

I don't throw deep diving baits.  I will try changing size of the bait and something similar in color.  I appreciate the help on this .
