lookn to rewrap a rod.

Featured Replies

I have a small rod I had made in "91",    looking for a rod builder who could rewrap it for me using all my exsisting guides. the seat and cork are in great shape, just like to clean it up and change the colors.

I hate to be the one to tell you this but it's not very practical.

You have 2 problems.... risk and money. The labor cost of a re-wrap usually exceeds that of a new build. And there is a risk when cutting off each guide, of damaging the blank (something that won't be visible after the re-wrap) so much as a nick from the razor blade can cause a catastrophic failure later. If that happens, you are out the cost of the re-build plus a custom rod!  Beyond that, there are not many people that can clean the blank up well enough that you won't see that it's a re-wrap.

I think you would be much better off to save a few more bucks (materials cost) and get another rod made, to your exact specs of today.

Call it a late Christmas gift to yourself.   :D

funny you mentioned that, Ericksons built this rod and every one of my salt waters as well. At 1 time I had over 12 custom surf rods from them, I still have 3, but sold and traded off the salts.

Ray Boucher was building them then, his wife (at the time) Lisa did some of the best work around.

Thanks BH, I'll give them a shout.
