Harbor freight has a table top mini lathe that I have been looking at. I don't need it but that never stopped me before.

I looked at the harbor freight one. For about the same money, you can get into a Grizzly.

My buddy who is getting into building also bought the HF 18" table top lathe he's been using it to turn hard wood fly handles and reel seat inserts. He's had it a week and made a few handles he says he really likes it I'm probably gonna buy one soon it was $125

Like I said, it's an affliction.

I started with a lathe drill press conversion

Ya that would basically be it with no foregrip. What do u use when using no foregrip

For no foregrip, I trim the excess threads that would be in front of the locking nut once the reel is attached and install a Batson FAWC winding check to transition.

What size thread do u use? What size should I order?

When u mark your spine, do u put a line in certain spots or up the hole rod?

When marking your guides, do u put a line & is the line the guide mark, I seen a few different ways on different videos where it is the guide ring & some center of whole guide?

I use both size A and D.  D is a little easier to use, A makes a prettier wrap.  Some threads only come in A or D.

I put a piece of 1/2" masking tape about 20" up from the butt.  I mark on that and use it as a reference for the remainder of the build.  China marker will wipe off.

If you are using recommended guide spacing that is the the location of the ring.  I convert my measurements so I can mark at the beginning of the guide foot.  That way the mark is covered by the thread.  I also use surgical tubing cut into little rubber bands so I can static load test the guide placement before I start wrapping.

I use size A nylon thread. I disregard spine and build on straightest axis. I don't mark guide location either. I put slices of vinyl tubing to hold the guides for location and wrapping.

Does the the tubing slide up the blank & then cut it off when ready

Getting ready for my order, tools only, no rod or rod components, should I order any syringes or adapters or paste or prokote or any thing else, trying to save on shipping

How much paste & kote do u normally mix per rod? Most rods will be 7'

I slice them with my razor knife into thin rubber bands.  I use them to hold the guide while I'm wrapping and then cut them when they get in the way.

When wrapping guides higher up on the rod, do u just move the Rod on the jig, most videos just show the bottom guide wrapping & not doing the whole rod

When using a hand wrapper you just slide the rod down till you have your working section in front of you and use the spare stand to support the butt section. It can be a real pain on softer rods or ice rods to wrap the top couple guides.
