Thinking about trying it in a local,pond.

All the time. I have caught piles of bass on a drop shot and not a single one of them was vertical from a boat.

I do it a lot. Maybe too much. But when I fish a "drop shot rig" that way, I use a shakey head rod, and a slightly heavier wire mosquito hook, rather than a drop shot rod designed for that vertical finesse presentation with the very light wire hooks.

x4 works great up here and in some Idaho lakes I frequent its a killer for my buddy.

Works just as well from the bank as from a boat. Success is still dominated by location however.

Don't do it, it will not work. 

 

I use a longer leader when fishing a d-shot from the bank because your line is at more of an angle.

Iv used the DS rig before, but not more than 2 or 3 times. Iv need something to focus on during these upcoming summer months.

Been wanting to try it out bank fishing.   

Right now, the bass around here are slamming the Keitech swim baits, so it may have to wait a bit!

drop shot plastic you want play with it rigging it different ways. the first time i tried it i caught a 8lb cat on a zoom finesse worm. 

Yup I only drop shot from shore. I'm boatless and my kayak moves to much to effectively fish really slow

From a boat, from a tube, from a yak, and you bet from shore!

 almost every day!!  works great.  I use Gary Y senkos or creatures weedless ( i even cut off the barb) get ready for them to hit it on the drop almost every time and leave slack for them to play with it and to hook 'em good.  the black/blue creatures are the best !!  now I have said too much......................

Depends on what is on the bottom, how far I have to cast (which changes the angle, meaning you'll need to set your bait higher to compensate for it), what the fish want, etc... When casting a DS, I try and keep my weight as close to the bait as I can get away with. It's just easier to work with. If I'm fishing off a steep bank or where there is a drop-off, I'll stretch it out. But there are too many variables to have a set length. The only thing is, from a bank, it's difficult to use the really long drops you can use when fishing vertically. If fish are up too high in the column, I might try something different, like a weightless wacky rig.

Good info. Thanks. When fishing a DS from the bank, does the bait/line sit at an angle while in the water, or does it kinda straighten itself out?

Anyway dropshot will work in pretty much anyway you want to fish it. Its probably my go to bank technique

Soon....I hadn't tried it until April of this year. Now, it's perhaps may favorite technique...well maybe not (froggin), but sure is effective!!!

I usually start around 12" but I shore fish weedy ponds a lot, so I will go up to 18" or more to keep the worm up out of the weeds.

Hell yes, this one pond that gets tons and tons of pressure.  I always go finesse: Dropshot and Splitshot always catches.

I know a guy who almost exclusively fishes dropshots in ponds unless they absolutely will not bite them. I personally dont fish dropshots much at all but Im considering learning how real soon haha
