Metanium Dc Or Aldebaran 50Hg

Featured Replies

Getting one of these as my first higher end set up.

Want to use it for mostly bass fishing but with the option for inshore. Also want to pair it with the duckett ghost or micro magic. Really stuck between the two, it will be my only setup for a year, maybe less. Thanks for any advice!

Those might be bad for inshore as I'm pretty sure they're both magnesium.

Yeah, I thought the problem was fixed with their. New mg. I'm not sure tho, that's why I'm asking. :o

These are not direct competitors IMO. One is awesome with light lures, much smaller and light as a feather, and the best palming reel I've felt to date. The other is more of an all around beast that has a very special braking system and costs $100 more.

Well I have the Aldebaran and a regular Metanium and between those 2 its very tough. Id pick the Metanium just because of how cool DC braking is.

I have both the Metanium DC and Aldebaran HG.  Both are awesome, but if I were going to pick one for versatility, it would be the Metanium DC.  I can throw 4" Senkos to 3/4oz Jigs with a trailer on the Metanium DC no problem when paired with a suitable rod.  I do a lot of open fresh water fishing in the Midwest and North east - I don't do any punching.  And if you do some flipping/pitching with the Metanium DC you still need a trained thumb.  However, The DC makes casting into the wind less worrisome which, to me, is worth the premium.

The Aldebaran will find itself on flipping/pitching duty.  For all other casting applications for me, it's the Metanium DC.

ive considered one for a while. metanium sounds like a good reel. i got a citica, curado and chronarch love em all i think its time for a more high end reel!

Anyone have a link explaining the DC braking?

Do a search for Metanium on this forum and Goose did a full blown review of the Met DC.
