Trying To Figure Out What Line

Featured Replies

I am considering changing out my worm rod from 14lb fluorocarbon to maybe 20lb tuf line hevi core line. I live down In south Florida and am stuck throwing the bank's i fish patched of hydrilla which is somewhat thick but then the water clarity is gin clear thinking I may need a leader of fluorocarbon. I like braid for other stuff but haven't used it for wormin. The question is should I go for it?

I've heard a lot about using it when punching because it sinks rather than floating. I've been using tuf line for a long time and have been super Impressed. Just haven't tried the hevi core.

I went fishing in thick lily pads last weekend and used some 12lb Tatsu and it was awesome.  I got stuck a few times and it did not break at all.  I was amazed at how tuff this line was.  I also used some 15lb Yo Zuri Hybrid.  It also did well but it was no where near the line Tatsu is. With that said Tatsu is expensive and may not be worth the cost but it is the best line I have ever used.

So FC and lily pads...I'd say go for it but to cut and punch that stuff, 50lb braid might be a better choice.

I'm interested to try it. The only disadvantages when fishing braid with jigs/worms is the lack of slack line sensitivity, abrasion resistance, and visibility. A fluoro leader takes care of the last two. Hevi core should definitely help with slackline sensitivity due to its increased density with a fluoro core.

I also have winched some nice fish out of lily pads this spring with braid and a 16# fluoro leader. A couple were over six pounds.

I throw T-rig worms on braid in gin clear water all the time.  Then again, when I'm T-rigging a worm I drag it along the bottom so the line's visibility isn't a concern.  I do, however, add a couple of bars to the line about 4in. apart above the worm.

I've used braid for a bunch of different applications but t rigging isn't one of them I did however t rig with heavy weds up north with great success but I usually did a lot of work with weedless grass jigs and braid since I made my own jigs and used them up in Wisconsin in the sense coontail. What did you mean by by bars 4" apart from the worm meaning marking the line with a marker?
