Bass Swallowing Drop Shot Hooks.

Featured Replies

Had it happen a few times this morning. Unfortunately 1 of the bass didn't pull through. Not a proud moment. Most of them were hooked in the roof of the mouth. Anyone else ever have this problem. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or they were just really liking what they were seeing.

All youve gotta do is pay close attention to your bait. Sometimes with a drop shot they will just suck the bait in, and you need to either see your line move away or feel the weight of the fish to know one is even there. Sometimes when you have a slack line or you arent paying super close attention, this can happen. Paying attention to this reduces the number of hook swallows to almost zero, but it can still happen every one in a while. Just a part of fishing.

Drop shot the weight is below the soft plastic and you should detect strikes easily unless you have a lot of slack line. Control the slack. If you can't detect strike, then use a circle hook.

You can also smash the barbs down so the hooks are removed more easily.  It won't prevent them from getting hooked deep but it should help them survive.
