Swing Up Hinges For Deck Compartment

Featured Replies

On my aluminum boat with plywood deck, there is a storage compartment that is open on one end. I've tried a piano hinge on the front edge to make it into a opening lid. The problem is this was part of the deck and the front edge butts up against the rest of the deck, preventing it from pivoting. I need something similar to a car trunk hinge that causes this lid to lift as it pivots to clear the deck. I'm having a hard time finding anything. Anyone have any ideas?

No, I need the hinge itself. Those just assist lifting the hatch on the hinge.

It might be easier to help you out if you had some pics of it.

You may be putting the piano hinge in the wrong place. If you mount it on top of both pieces will it work. Not real sure I understand your problem

How about some photos?

Mount the piano hinge to the adjoining face it's hitting rather than the subfloor.

I believe I've found a solution. Once the parts arrive, I will install and post pics for anyone else looking for this.

What you are looking for are available as cabinet door hinges. I put some on my pantry doors when I made them. The problem you will have with the ones I used is they are the European style and requires a 30mm hole about a 1/2" deep, but I have seen them in flush mount also.

Probably something like this http://www.leescountryrv.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/overhead-rv-cabinet-support-hinge.jpg

Do a search on cabinet door hinges and select images, that will show you all kind.
