A Real Reel Problem

Featured Replies

So, I take my reel apart to fix a minor problem, and while I was at it, I decided to clean and oil the inside of it(no greese, just oil), and when I put it back together, it reeled really really hard, and I don't know what t he problem is.

I know It IS something wrong with the two gears that spin the worm gear and that is all?

Please help!

~Kevin

Note: I did clean the gunk off those two gear and put oil on them

Kevin,  I don't know jack about the mechanics of a reel, but may I make a couple of suggestions?

-post pics

-spinning or baitcasting?

-make and model?

-parts leftover?

-parts do move?  but, hard to turn handle?

-what lube/grease/oil did you use?

-open it up and take a pic and post up

Take it apart, and put it back together carefully following the schematics.

See the brass gears in the image below, these need to be greased (not oiled). I'm just guessing but the gunk you removed may have been the grease that help keep your gears from binding.

I think there is a series of videos that will be very helpful for you to watch. Search "TackleJunkie81" on YouTube and see his 3 part series.

It is a discontinued bass pro shops tournament series reel(baitcasting) , and the oil was ardent reel butter.

I got this from a member on here, and he said some of the stuff in it was upgraded, and thats about all I know about it...

If you remember the "minor problem" I talked about in the first post that I had to fix, it was the whole problem!

The problem was that I had to fix the little "tooth" that goes into the worm gear, and what needed to be fixed was the tooth didn't go down far enough, so I put something in to keep it down!

Well it turns out that it was pushing it down TO much and that wasn't letting it go!

It doesn't "let go" but just floats and drives the line guide back and forth. If it doesn't do that anymore, then it should be replaced, not pushed down with some added parts.

We don't really have any place around here to get it fixed I don't think, and I don't really want to send it off to somebody...
