Identify Japanese Swimbait

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone knew and model and maker of this swimbait that Ken Iyobe is seen using in this video. I included a picture below. It's a large, black, paddle tail, line thru swim bait that looks to be more of a pliable rubber than a soft plastic. It has red eyes in a similar shape to Spro lures. The video is available on YouTube if anyone needs a better view. Thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone on here was famililiar with it. Thanks everyone and have a great day!!

Thanks. Certainly not the same, but very similar. I was very intrigued by the material the swimbait appeared to be made out of as opposed to the design. Where do these guys get this stuff? I must have searched every Japanese tackle store website to no avail. I appreciate you taking the time.

Here's a better pic of it. Doesn't appear to be a line thru. It seems as if the treble hook is attached to the inside of the bait somehow.

He is sponsored by a company called 10 feet under or 10FU and I'd be willing to bet it is one of their products. That brand is very hard to get, no distributors in the U.S.

Well that's a bummer. I've searched everywhere and nothing looks right. He talks in the video about what it is, but I don't speak Japanese. Oh well. If I'm ever meant to find out what it is than I will. At least I stumped Bass Resource, that's a consolation prize.

I recall older Ospreys had a rigging similar to that. (Go to calfishing and look at the reviews. Pretty good pics of the rigging system anyway.)

It is a very similar rigging system. Appears they call it a "pro rig" and you can't tell from the pics if it goes through the top like Ken's does. Why can't Ken Iyobe just hop on Bass Resource and throw me a bone?!?

Probably better than reading japanese...

My thoughts exactly

Looks like a nice Osprey clone...not quite a match...but probably easier to get.

It was much better.

$h!7, a date with Mila Kunis and a 10 lb LM in the same day would be easier to get. Every dealer in the Japanese and Chinese market is sold out of them.

I believe the Kunoo Type 2 is the one Ken Iyobe uses, but it doesn't matter, every style is sold out. If anyone every hears about some becoming available, throw me a line. Fishing pun intended.

Like I said...Ospreys all over the place, and pretty cheap too...$8!
