What might be the best choices in lighting for pier or dock for night fishing. Perhaps an overhead that would illuminate the water. Hopefully something every-efficient and long-lasting.

I have heard from people that installed spot lights at the end of their piers to attract the fish at night.

 

They attract mostly catfish and bugs.  Lots of both, especially the bugs.

 

Sorry, no one has ever told me that bright lights at nigh attract bass but I am sure someone out there would know for sure.

You don't want anything overhead, draws bugs and don't work as well. The one I have is from Green Monster Fishing Lights. It's a 100' cord with a weight attached. The bulb floats up off the bottom any distance you want by sliding the weight back or forth.

The best lights to use are submersible, if it is a green LED then it is even better.  Don't know the science behind this but I know these seem to draw the fish better than anything else.  Also, bugs seem to be interested in them as well.  Have fished many docks during the summer nights in Louisiana so I'm referencing a large sample size to see what works.

 

Lights draw tiny critters which draw little fish that in turn attract bigger fish.  Bass will be nearby hanging in the shadows around the light waiting to ambush prey.  Work your bait where light fades to dark and you will catch bass.  Have done this technique a lot.

 

If you want to buy one there several options online.

My question is what's there?

Is the cover?

Is there structure?

A light alone aint gonna attact anything!

If there aint nothing there & if it's legal sink brush piles.

use a headlamp !! cheap and you can turn it off while fishing..
