Old Shimano Speedmaster..repair help

Featured Replies

I have an old Shimano Speedmaster that has damage to the wrapping on the first guide freom the handle. It doesn't appear to be wrapped with thread ? Any help on how I would go about repairing this myself would be appreciated. Also if anyone has any history on this line of rods I would appreciate it...it is 6'6" MH with a straight handle and from what I can remember Shimano didn't make a lot of these.

First off they were wrapped with A size wrapping threads.

The only way to get that fixed properly is to have a professional rod builder do the job.

The guide has to be cut from the blank, the blank has to be prepped to place and re-wrap the guide, then a quality rod thread finish is applied, and the rod turns for about 8 hrs to cure and level.

Just the .02¢ of an old rod builder..

Thanks Reel Mech for your advice . Do you by any chance know anything about this rod ?

Thanks

I had 2 of them but to be honest I barely remember them, got into Kunan & Fenwick rods when those speedmasters were out.

The best person to ask about that rod would be bantam1 over in the Shimano® Support.
